Bone Broth Smoothies for Recovery: High-Protein Smoothie Recipes for Active Living

Twenty practical smoothie recipes using Broth + Co NAKED Bone Broth Powder, fruit, yoghurt, oats and whole-food ingredients.

Bone broth and smoothies do not immediately sound like natural partners. Bone broth usually belongs in soups, stews, savoury cooking and warm drinks. Smoothies usually mean fruit, yoghurt, oats, milk and ice.

The bridge between the two is Broth + Co NAKED Bone Broth Powder. Its natural neutral flavour means it can be used in sweet recipes where you want the nutritional contribution of bone broth without turning the smoothie into a savoury drink.

Key Takeaways

Bone broth smoothies work best with NAKED Bone Broth Powder because it has a neutral flavour. Use smoothies as one practical option for breakfast, active days or post-training nutrition, not as a compulsory recovery ritual. A useful smoothie combines NAKED with complementary protein foods, fruit, fluid and oats when you need something more substantial.

Yes, You Can Put Bone Broth in a Smoothie

The question most people ask first is simple: does a bone broth smoothie taste like beef? With a strongly flavoured traditional broth, that would be a fair concern. With NAKED, the answer is different because the powder is designed to be neutral enough for both sweet and savoury recipes.

Think of it like adding oats to a smoothie. Oats do not make the smoothie taste like porridge; they quietly change the texture, body and nutrition. NAKED works in a similar way. It contributes protein and collagen-derived amino acids while letting banana, berries, mango, cacao, cinnamon or coffee lead the flavour.

Why Put Bone Broth Powder in a Smoothie?

A smoothie can be a convenient way to bring several foods together in one drink. Depending on what you add, it may contain protein, carbohydrate, fruit, dairy or alternatives, whole grains, nuts, seeds and fluid.

Adding NAKED contributes another source of protein together with collagen-derived amino acids such as glycine, proline and hydroxyproline. Those amino acids are naturally associated with collagen-rich tissues, while the yoghurt, milk or soy milk in the smoothie can provide a broader protein profile.

Collagen Amino Acids Explained: Glycine, Proline & Hydroxyproline .

Smoothie component

What it contributes

NAKED Bone Broth Powder

Protein and collagen-derived amino acids in a neutral-flavoured format.

Greek yoghurt, milk or fortified soy milk

Complementary protein, creaminess and fluid.

Fruit

Carbohydrate, flavour, colour and plant compounds.

Oats

A more substantial texture and additional carbohydrate.

Nuts, seeds or nut butter

Flavour, texture and healthy fats where they suit the recipe.

A Smoothie Is a Meal Matrix

A banana, yoghurt, blueberry and NAKED smoothie is not powerful because one ingredient is magical. It is useful because several ordinary foods are working together. That is the food matrix in action: the structure, combination and context of foods matter, not just a list of isolated nutrients.

This is the same principle explored in The Food Matrix Explained: Why Whole Foods Matter .

That mental model makes smoothies easier to build. You are not trying to create a perfect drink. You are combining ingredients that make sense for your appetite, activity and timing.

When Are Recovery Smoothies Useful?

Smoothies are practical when you are short on time, have trained in the morning, do not feel like a large solid meal, are heading somewhere after exercise, or simply enjoy a cold breakfast or snack.

They are not mandatory after every workout. If dinner is ready thirty minutes after training, dinner can be your recovery meal. If you trained before breakfast, breakfast can do the job. If you have taken a gentle walk, you probably do not need a specialised recovery smoothie at all.

What Makes a Good Recovery Smoothie?

·       Start with protein: NAKED plus Greek yoghurt, milk or fortified soy milk.

·       Add carbohydrate according to activity: banana, mango, berries, oats or dates.

·       Use colourful plants: berries, kiwi, mango, spinach or cherries.

·       Add fluid: milk, fortified soy milk or water depending on the recipe.

·       Keep flavour simple: vanilla, cinnamon, cacao, coffee or citrus.

Protein, Collagen and Recovery

NAKED is a bone broth protein, not a generic gym protein powder. That means it has its own role. Collagen-rich proteins provide amino acids that differ from the proteins most often discussed for muscle protein synthesis. This is why the recipes combine NAKED with yoghurt, milk or fortified soy milk rather than asking one ingredient to do everything.

Training is the signal. Food provides resources. Recovery is when the body uses those resources to repair, refill and adapt. A smoothie can help with the food part, but it does not replace the signal created by movement, strength training and consistent habits.

Why NAKED Is the Product for Smoothies

NAKED Bone Broth Powder is the logical Broth + Co product for smoothies because its natural neutral flavour works with banana, berries, mango, cacao, coffee and nut butter. Original, BEEFY, Ginger + Turmeric and Energy Performance have their own uses, but they are not the natural choice for fruit smoothies.

Twenty Bone Broth Smoothie Recipes

These recipes use Australian measurements and are designed as flexible templates. Adjust the thickness with extra milk, use frozen fruit for a colder texture, and match the more substantial smoothies to days when your activity or appetite calls for more.

Recipe 1: Creamy Banana, Vanilla & NAKED Bone Broth Smoothie

Serves: 1

Prep time: 5 minutes

Blend time: 1 minute

Ingredients

·       1 medium ripe banana, frozen in pieces

·       1 serve Broth + Co NAKED Bone Broth Powder

·       170 g plain Greek yoghurt

·       250 mL milk of choice

·       ¼ cup rolled oats

·       ½ teaspoon natural vanilla extract

·       ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

·       4–6 ice cubes

Method

Step 1: Pour the milk into the blender first. Adding liquid first helps the remaining ingredients move more freely around the blades.

Step 2: Add the Greek yoghurt, frozen banana and rolled oats.

Step 3: Add the NAKED Bone Broth Powder, vanilla and cinnamon.

Step 4: Add the ice cubes.

Step 5: Blend on high for 45–60 seconds.

Step 6: Stop the blender and check the texture. If any oats remain visible around the sides, scrape them down and blend for another 15–20 seconds.

Step 7: For a thinner smoothie, add 30–50 mL additional milk and blend again.

Step 8: Pour into a glass and serve immediately.

Make Ahead: Peel and slice ripe bananas before freezing them in individual portions. You can also portion the banana and oats together into freezer containers so only the yoghurt, milk, NAKED and flavourings need to be added in the morning.

Recipe 2: Blueberry, Banana & Chia Bone Broth Smoothie

Serves: 1

Prep time: 5 minutes

Blend time: 1 minute

Ingredients

·       1 cup frozen blueberries

·       ½ medium frozen banana

·       1 serve Broth + Co NAKED Bone Broth Powder

·       170 g plain Greek yoghurt

·       250 mL milk

·       2 tablespoons rolled oats

·       1 teaspoon chia seeds

·       ½ teaspoon natural vanilla extract

·       ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Step 1: Add the milk and Greek yoghurt to the blender.

Step 2: Add the frozen blueberries and banana.

Step 3: Sprinkle in the oats and chia seeds.

Step 4: Add the NAKED Bone Broth Powder, vanilla and cinnamon.

Step 5: Blend on high for approximately 60 seconds.

Step 6: Stop and scrape down the sides if required.

Step 7: Blend for another 15 seconds until the blueberry skins and oats are finely blended.

Step 8: If the smoothie is too thick, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach the consistency you prefer.

Step 9: Pour into a chilled glass and serve immediately.

For a Thicker Breakfast Smoothie: Increase the oats to ⅓ cup and allow the finished smoothie to stand for 2 minutes before drinking.

Recipe 3: Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Recovery Smoothie

Serves: 1

Prep time: 5 minutes

Blend time: 1 minute

Ingredients

·       1 medium frozen banana

·       1 serve Broth + Co NAKED Bone Broth Powder

·       170 g plain Greek yoghurt

·       250 mL milk

·       1 tablespoon unsweetened cacao powder

·       1 tablespoon natural peanut butter

·       ¼ cup rolled oats

·       ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

·       Small pinch ground cinnamon

·       4 ice cubes

Method

Step 1: Add milk to the blender.

Step 2: Add Greek yoghurt and frozen banana.

Step 3: Add peanut butter, cacao and rolled oats.

Step 4: Add the NAKED Bone Broth Powder, vanilla and cinnamon.

Step 5: Add ice.

Step 6: Blend for approximately 60 seconds until thick and creamy.

Step 7: Stop the blender and scrape down any peanut butter sticking to the sides.

Step 8: Blend again for 10–15 seconds.

Step 9: Taste before adding anything sweet. A ripe banana should provide sufficient sweetness.

Step 10: Pour into a glass and serve immediately.

Lighter Option: Leave out the peanut butter and reduce the oats to 2 tablespoons.

More Substantial Option: Increase the oats to ½ cup if the smoothie is replacing breakfast and that suits your individual energy needs.

Recipe 4: Mango, Lime & Yoghurt Bone Broth Smoothie

Serves: 1

Prep time: 5 minutes

Blend time: 1 minute

Ingredients

·       1 cup frozen mango

·       ½ medium banana

·       1 serve Broth + Co NAKED Bone Broth Powder

·       170 g Greek yoghurt

·       200 mL milk

·       1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

·       1 teaspoon chia seeds

·       4–6 ice cubes

Method

Step 1: Add the milk and yoghurt to the blender.

Step 2: Add frozen mango and banana.

Step 3: Add the NAKED Bone Broth Powder and chia seeds.

Step 4: Squeeze in the fresh lime juice.

Step 5: Add ice.

Step 6: Blend on high for approximately 60 seconds until completely smooth.

Step 8: Blend briefly again.

Step 9: Pour into a glass and serve immediately with an extra squeeze of lime if desired.

Recipe 5: Strawberry, Kiwi & Vanilla Bone Broth Smoothie

Serves: 1

Ingredients

·       1 cup frozen strawberries

·       1 kiwi fruit, peeled and quartered

·       ½ frozen banana

Step 3: Add rolled oats.

Step 4: Add the NAKED Bone Broth Powder and vanilla.

Step 6: Check that the kiwi and oats are completely incorporated.

Step 7: If necessary, blend for another 15 seconds.

Step 8: Add the remaining milk if you prefer a thinner smoothie.

Step 9: Serve immediately.

Why This Combination Works: Strawberry and kiwi give the smoothie a fresher, slightly tart flavour that balances the creamy yoghurt and banana. Kiwi and strawberries are also vitamin C-containing foods, while NAKED contributes collagen-derived protein.

Recipe 6: Cherry, Berry & Vanilla Recovery Smoothie

Step 4: Add rolled oats and almond butter.

Step 5: Add NAKED Bone Broth Powder, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg.

Step 5: Add ice.

Step 6: Blend for 60–90 seconds until the oats are finely blended.

Step 7: Add additional milk if necessary.

Step 8: Serve immediately.

Why This One Is More Substantial: The larger oat portion and almond butter make this closer to a small meal than a light recovery drink. If you're eating a complete meal soon after training, one of the lighter smoothies may make more sense.

Recipe 17: Runner's Mango, Banana & Oat Smoothie

Serves: 1

Prep time: 5 minutes

Blend time: 1 minute

This is deliberately one of the more carbohydrate-focused smoothies in the collection, making it better suited to recovery from longer or more demanding activity than a light everyday walk.

Ingredients

·       1 large frozen banana

·       ¾ cup frozen mango

·       1 serve Broth + Co NAKED Bone Broth Powder

·       170 g plain Greek yoghurt

Step 8: Stop the blender and scrape down the sides if necessary.

Step 9: Check the consistency. If it is too thick, add another 30–50 mL milk.

Step 10: Blend again for approximately 10 seconds.

Step 11: Pour into a glass and serve immediately.

After Longer Training: For someone with particularly high energy or carbohydrate requirements, this smoothie can be served alongside additional fruit or a meal rather than trying to put every nutritional requirement into the blender.

Why It Fits: Banana, mango and oats provide carbohydrate, while Greek yoghurt and milk provide quality protein. NAKED contributes additional protein and collagen-derived amino acids.

Recipe 18: Active Ageing Banana, Blueberry & Yoghurt Smoothie

Why It Fits: Maintaining adequate protein intake becomes increasingly relevant across adulthood. This smoothie combines NAKED with Greek yoghurt and milk, providing a broader protein mix within a practical breakfast or snack.

In the morning, tip one pack into the blender. Add Greek yoghurt, milk, chia seeds, NAKED Bone Broth Powder, vanilla and cinnamon. Blend until smooth. This saves time without requiring the finished smoothie to sit overnight and lose its texture.

How to Build Your Own Bone Broth Smoothie

Twenty recipes are useful. The real win is understanding the formula well enough to stop needing recipes.

Step

Simple formula

1

Use 1 serve Broth + Co NAKED Bone Broth Powder.

2

Add 150-170 g Greek yoghurt plus 200-250 mL milk or fortified soy milk.

3

Choose 1-1.5 cups fruit.

4

Add 0-1/2 cup rolled oats depending on appetite and activity.

5

Add nuts, seeds, cacao, vanilla, cinnamon, coffee or citrus where they suit the flavour.

If the smoothie is too thick, add 30-50 mL extra milk and blend again. If it is too thin, add a little frozen banana, 1-2 tablespoons oats or a few ice cubes.

Before adding sweetener, check the fruit. A ripe banana, mango or pineapple can change the flavour dramatically. If the smoothie is too sweet, balance it with lime, lemon, tart berries or plain Greek yoghurt.

Freezer-Pack Shortcuts

·       Chocolate banana pack: freeze 1 sliced banana and 1/4 cup oats. Blend with NAKED, Greek yoghurt, milk, cacao and nut butter.

·       Berry breakfast pack: freeze 1 cup berries, 1/2 banana and 1/3 cup oats. Blend with NAKED, yoghurt, milk, chia and vanilla.

·       Tropical pack: freeze 3/4 cup mango, 1/2 cup pineapple and 1/2 banana. Blend with NAKED, yoghurt, milk and lime.

Preparing ingredients is usually better than blending the finished smoothie the night before. Oats absorb liquid, chia thickens, fruit can separate and the texture changes. A freezer pack keeps the speed without sacrificing freshness.

Not when made with NAKED Bone Broth Powder and balanced with fruit, yoghurt, oats and flavourings. NAKED is the neutral-flavoured option in the Broth + Co range.

Are bone broth smoothies only for athletes?

No. They can suit active people, busy mornings, warm weather, lower appetite or anyone who enjoys smoothies. The amount and ingredients should match the person and the day.

Do I need a smoothie immediately after exercise?

No. A smoothie is one option. A balanced meal can also support recovery nutrition, especially if you are eating soon after training.

Can I make these dairy-free?

Yes, but the protein content will change. Fortified soy milk generally provides more protein than many nut- or grain-based drinks. Check the nutrition panel when choosing alternatives.

Can I add another protein powder?

You can if it suits your individual requirements, but these recipes already combine NAKED with protein-containing foods such as yoghurt and milk. More is not automatically better.

Can I prepare smoothies ahead?

Freshly blended usually tastes best. For speed, prepare freezer packs with fruit and oats, then blend with yoghurt, milk and NAKED when ready.

Summary

Bone broth smoothies are not about turning recovery into a complicated supplement routine. They are a practical way to use NAKED Bone Broth Powder in sweet recipes alongside fruit, yoghurt, milk, oats and other familiar foods.

The best smoothie is the one that fits the moment: light when you only need a snack, more substantial when you need breakfast, and flexible enough to adapt to your appetite, training and day-to-day routine.
